Historical Note: The Mimbres people would travel from what today is southwestern New Mexico to the Gulf of California to collect sea shells to trade with other prehistoric Indians of the southwest. This bowl tells the story of one of the trading journeys to the Gulf of California and the finding of a beached whale. A man is sticking a staff or spear into the whale or large fish found on the beach.
