Catalog of Museum Quality Replicas

Limited Editions

Historical Note: This bowl is a decapitation scene.  It has been interpreted by one archaeologist as illustrating the sacrifice of a Mimbres warrior by a Casas Grandes Warrior Society priest.  The headdress identifies the priest with the Mexican deity Quetzalcoatl. This scene has also been interpreted as a sacrifice of famine due to drought.  This bowl may also represent the story of the decapitation of "Laban" a story found in the Book of Mornom. This bowl  may relate to the stories that are depicted in two other Mimbres bowls G-3 and G-4 that have the same reference to the story.
