Randy Werner is a native New Mexico artist who is
fast becoming one of the most respected pottery makers in the Southwest. Randy and his
wife Marlyn (who is part Cherokee and Choctaw) are going back in time to recreate the ancient ceramic art of the Southwest.
These two New Mexico artisans are resurrecting the practice as they follow a quest to
recreate the awesome ceramics of the ancient peoples of the Southwest. Paints are derived
from plants and minerals, firing is done in open wood fires. "Each piece we do is a
replica of an actual historic vessel that exists in a museum or other collection. Our aim
is not only for the piece to look like the original, but to feel like it and be like it in
every way possible."
Their work is featured in galleries in New Mexico, Arizona and
Utah. The Werner's have been featured in magazines
throughout the southwest. Recently one of their Mimbres bowls (G75) was
exhibited in "Touched by Fire, the art, life, and legacy of Maria Martinez" at
the Museum of Indian Arts & Culture in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
These two artist have devoted
the last 15 years in developing the methods of replicating the finest museum
quality prehistoric pottery available. Each piece is a limited edition...
a true Legend in Clay.
